The GRE is scored on a total scale of 260–340, combining Verbal Reasoning (130–170) and Quantitative Reasoning (130–170). Analytical Writing is scored separately on a 0–6 scale, in 0.5 increments. GRE scores hold the longest validity of all four exams, at 5 years.
The GRE General Test fee is $249, effective from August 1, 2026 (increased from the earlier $220). Since this fee is charged in US dollars, the amount you pay in Indian Rupees depends on the exchange rate at the time of payment. At current rates, that works out to approximately ₹23,500–24,000, plus a small online service fee. If you need the GRE Subject Test, that’s priced separately at $175 USD (rising to $199 USD from August 1, 2026, the same date as the General Test increase) — also subject to the same exchange-rate variation. One advantage of the GRE is that your score stays valid for 5 years, the longest validity period among all four exams.
