Both formats now follow the redesigned 2026 exam pattern, introduced on January 21, 2026, which made the test shorter and introduced adaptive Reading and Listening sections. Scores are reported on the traditional 0–120 scale, alongside a new, easier-to-interpret 1.0–6.0 band scale aligned with the CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference) – the same European standard many universities already use to describe language proficiency.

Score range of- TOEFL Test
TOEFL is scored on two scales at once: the traditional 0–120 total score, made up of four sections (Reading, Listening, Speaking, and Writing) scored 0–30 each and added together, plus a newer 1.0–6.0 band scale, in 0.5 increments, introduced with the 2026 format update and aligned with the CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference). During the 2026–2028 transition period, your score report shows both scales side by side. There’s no official pass or fail score — each university sets its own minimum requirement. TOEFL scores are valid for 2 years.
TOEFL- Exam Fee
The TOEFL iBT exam fee is $199 USD, which comes to approximately ₹17,200–19,000 depending on the exchange rate at the time of payment (since this is a dollar-denominated fee, the exact rupee amount can shift slightly, similar to the SAT and GRE).
